Anyone who’s a parent would agree that anyone who makes you child the target of vile sexual threats would find out that is is they who’d actually end up in the cross-hairs. Now, add to that, the parent in question is a multiple World Series-winning pitcher and it’s easy to see that those crossing the line are stepping onto a minefield.
This all began with what should have been a joyous occasion. Schilling publicly shared the news that his 17-year-old daughter will be attending college on a softball scholarship. However, this quickly descending into tweets that, in some instances, spoke of sexual violence against Schilling’s daughter. Schilling took to his blog t share images of the tweets he’d received. Additionally, he called out two of these trolls by name: Sean MacDonald and Adam Nagel.
Both men have deleted their Twitter accounts but, they didn’t exempt them from the real-word consequences of their actions. MacDonald, a recent graduate of Montclair State University, worked as a part-time ticket-seller for the New York Yankees. The key word here is “worked”. The organization fired him. Nagel, a student Brookdale Community College was just suspended by his college. To top it off, Schilling helped secure their online infamy with the following words:
“The Sports Guru”? Ya he’s a DJ named Adam Nagel (DJ is a bit strong since he’s on the air for 1 hour a week) on Brookdale Student Radio at Brookdale Community College. How do you think that place feels about this stud representing their school? You don’t think this isn’t going to be a nice compilation that will show up every single time this idiot is googled the rest of his life? What happens when a potential woman he’s after googles and reads this?
The other clown? He’s VP of the Theta Xi fraternity at Montclair State University. I gotta believe if Theta Xi is cool with a VP of one of their chapters acting like this I’d prefer to have no one I know in it. Also, does anyone attending Montclair State University have a student handbook? If so can you pass it along because I am pretty sure there are about 90 violations in this idiots tweets.
To top it off, numerous online news publications have picked up this story so, future Google searches are going to yield results for these two individuals, which could pose challenges for future employment opportunities.
Clearly, these two, as well as others, crossed the line, regardless of whose child they were targeting. However, by targeting the child of such a high-profile celebrity, these two might have sealed their fates.
