Repeated bad social media antics cost sportswriter job

Until recently, Adrian Dater reported on the Colorado Avalanche for the Denver Post. This all came to a screeching halt when the Post fired him for crossing a line on too many times.

On the surface, it seemed that, when it came to social media, Dater’s impulse control was very limited.  He had been suspended previously due to his actions on Twitter, which included sexist comments, a profane outburst to fans and a fellow writer and even direct-messaging a woman to ask her for nude photos of herself.

Suprisingly, this didn’t cost him his job.

Dater isn’t saying what the final straw was but, in a post on his personal Facebook page, he says that the Denver Post terminated his employment with them.  Adrian Dater also confessed to what has been the source of his erratic behavior: substance abuse and manic depression.

If this is true, hopefully this incident will spur him to get the help he needs.
