A Michigan teacher is serving a 13-day unpaid suspension for a tweet she posted about a pregnant student. The tweet was discovered by students and brought to the attention of administration.
The tweet read: “I’m sure the girl who is taking my economics class for the second time will make an excellent mom come December. #sarcasm.”
The 13-day suspension is the maximum that can be given to a teacher with having to go before the Michigan Teacher Tenure Commission. The superintendent for the Wyoming, Michigan district, Thomas Reeder, says that he has already reached out to the girl’s family to issue apologies. For the sake of privacy, neither the teacher nor the student’s names have been released.
